is a project-based community contest to celebrate each family's immigration story and cultural heritage, through art and film.
Through the form of a contest, Grandfather's Journey is a project intending to bring communities closer together, regardless of culture or ethnicity. By sharing the immigration stories and varying experiences coming from all sorts of backgrounds, we hope to break down barriers between students, their families, and peers.
A contest submission includes two parts: A short, written summary, and the main project. Contestants may choose one of two options for the main project, creating either an art piece or short film. An example of a short film a contestant could produce is a short interview, less than five minutes long, with an older relative telling the family's immigration story to the United States.
We encourage contestants to give this thought and effort in honor and remembrance of their family and their struggles, but what truly matters is the messages shared and story told.
